Inventory Audits
Inventory audits are available on the Pro plan only.
Inventory audits provide a structured way to count physical stock and compare it against system quantities. This is essential for maintaining accurate inventory records.
Audit Types
Full Audit
Covers all products at the current location. Every product must be counted. Uncounted items are flagged as discrepancies.
Partial Audit
Covers a selected subset of products. Only the chosen products need to be counted. Useful for spot-checking specific categories or high-value items.
Creating an Audit
- Go to Inventory > Audits
- Click New Audit
- Choose Full or Partial
- For partial audits, select which products to include
- Optionally enable Blind Count Mode
- Start counting
Counting Methods
Manual Entry
Enter the counted quantity for each product directly in the audit form.
Barcode Scanning
Use barcode scanning in continuous mode:
- Point the scanner at each item
- Each scan increments the count for that product by one
- Continue scanning until all items are counted
This is the fastest method for physical counts.
Blind Count Mode
When enabled, blind count mode hides the system quantities during counting. This prevents counters from being influenced by what the system says and ensures an honest physical count. System quantities are revealed only during the review step.
Blind count mode is recommended for accurate audits. It prevents staff from simply confirming what the system already shows.
Reviewing Discrepancies
After counting is complete, the review screen shows:
- Item name and variant
- System quantity (what Shopify says you have)
- Counted quantity (what was physically counted)
- Discrepancy (difference between the two)
Items with discrepancies are highlighted for easy identification.
Completing the Audit
You have two options when completing:
- Complete with adjustments -- apply the counted quantities to Shopify inventory. This updates all discrepant items to match your physical count.
- Complete without adjustments -- save the audit results for the record but do not change Shopify inventory. Useful for reporting purposes.
