General Settings
General settings control core POS behavior including tax configuration, stock policies, and display preferences. Access settings from the sidebar menu.
Tax Configuration
| Setting | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Tax enabled | Whether tax is calculated on orders | Enabled |
| Tax rate | The percentage tax rate to apply | Varies by region |
| Tax inclusive | Whether displayed prices include tax | Off (prices are tax-exclusive) |
When tax inclusive is enabled, the displayed product price is the final price. Tax is calculated backwards from the total. When disabled, tax is added on top of the displayed price at checkout.
Match your tax settings to your local regulations. If your jurisdiction requires prices to include tax (common in many countries), enable tax inclusive mode so customers see the final price on the product grid.
Stock Settings
| Setting | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Allow overselling | Permit sales when available stock is zero | Off |
| Low stock threshold | Quantity below which low stock alerts trigger | 10 |
Allow overselling is useful for businesses that accept backorders or have reliable restocking. When enabled, products can be sold even when the available quantity is zero. When disabled, the Place Order button is blocked for out-of-stock items.
The low stock threshold applies globally to all products. See Low Stock Alerts for details.
Display Settings
| Setting | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Show collections | Display Shopify collections as product categories in the POS grid | Off |
When enabled, the product grid shows collection tabs at the top, letting staff filter products by collection. This is useful for stores with large catalogs organized into categories.
Security Settings
| Setting | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Auto-lock timeout | Minutes of inactivity before the POS locks automatically | 5 minutes |
Set a shorter timeout for public-facing terminals and a longer timeout for back-office use. Setting to 0 disables auto-lock (not recommended). See Lock Screen for more on POS locking behavior.
